In Salisbury, 30-year-old David Alan Brady pleaded guilty on August 23 to second-degree murder and felony child abuse related to the death of his girlfriend's son, Waylon Blake Thompson, and the severe injuries of his own son, Matthew. Brady's legal troubles began in 2020 when Waylon, then a child, died from blunt force trauma, with Brady living at the same residence. Initially charged with felony child abuse, he was granted a $500,000 bond.
A 3-year-old girl has died from injuries sustained in a shooting on Rowan Mill Road, Salisbury, that also killed her 80-year-old great-grandfather, Charles William. The shooting occurred on August 10, with over 30 shots fired into the home. William was killed in his recliner, and the child, Myisha Angel, was shot while in a bunk bed.
Michael David Smith, 47, was arrested on August 16 following a four-month investigation into drug trafficking by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators began their probe in April, focusing on Smith’s alleged drug activities in China Grove and Salisbury.

Upon arrival, paramedics determined that Ramirez was likely impaired rather than suffering from a medical condition.While awaiting the NC Highway Patrol, Ramirez brandished a handgun and fired a shot. In the ensuing chaos, one Rowan County paramedic sustained an arm injury from a fall while seeking cover. Ramirez then stole a fire department pickup truck, which he drove erratically. After colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Hwy 152 and Unity Church Road, Ramirez drove off-road across a soybean field and into a nearby yard, where he was ultimately apprehended by deputies.The stolen gun was recovered by a Rowan County Sheriff’s Office K9 in the soybean field. Ramirez sustained minor injuries from the crash, and the driver of the other vehicle was unharmed. The injured paramedic was treated and released from the hospital.We are relieved to report that, despite the challenging circumstances, all personnel will return to their families without life-threatening injuries. This incident highlights the dedication and solidarity between all Rowan County emergency service personnel in ensuring each other's safety and effectively resolving the situation.

A 29-year-old Concord man, Mario Sanchez-Mata, has been arrested on second-degree murder charges after confessing to killing his brother, Jose Sanchez-Mata, 33. On August 3 at 12:38 p.m., officers responded to a well-being check at 2754 Plantation Road NW, Concord, following Mario's confession to Rowan County Sheriff's Office deputies. Minutes later, a woman at the residence called police to report her boyfriend was dead. Officers found Jose had been shot. Mario was arrested by Rowan County deputies and charged with second-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied property. He is held in Cabarrus County jail on a $1 million bond. The incident is believed to be a domestic dispute.

A Belgian Malinois that was shot after biting a Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy on July 20 has made a full recovery, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies had responded to a call from a woman who reported that her boyfriend had pulled her hair and threatened to kill her.
In June 2024, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Detectives launched an investigation into Marion Dajuan Feaster of Kannapolis, NC. Over the course of a month, Feaster was found to be selling trafficking quantities of Crystal Methamphetamine in Rowan and Cabarrus Counties. On July 22, 2024, Feaster was arrested while attempting to deliver approximately 256 grams of methamphetamine in the Dollar General Store parking lot.
Andrew Szech has been arrested for allegedly convincing a 15-year-old girl to travel from Kannapolis, North Carolina, to Chicago, where he sexually abused her. The U.S. Marshals Service located the missing girl at a residence in Green Oaks, Illinois, prompting detectives to obtain a search warrant on July 24.

SALISBURY — A man has been arrested and warrants issued for two others following a robbery that left a man hospitalized. Deputies responded to a call at Powles-Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, where they found a man with head injuries. The victim reported he was attacked by three men at a party on Puckett Drive while searching for a dropped credit card. The attackers stole his backpack, including his medication.
SALISBURY — John Michael Dayvault, a 39-year-old from China Grove, was arrested on Tuesday following a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office, alerted by the NCMEC through the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, initiated an investigation after Microsoft Bing reported potential child pornography in Dayvault’s possession, according to Captain Mark McDaniel.
Kannapolis police are investigating a homicide following reports of shots fired late Tuesday night. Officers responded to the 600 block of Caribbean Court at 11:45 p.m., where they discovered 18-year-old Damien Carter Senesaynho deceased from a gunshot wound. Another individual was hospitalized with serious injuries.

A man was charged after entering a store on a bicycle, assaulting the manager, attempting theft, and exposing himself to deputies. Deputies responded to a disturbance at Love’s Travel Stop on Peeler Road around 7 a.m. Arvin Junior Stevenson, 46, resisted arrest, shouted profanities, and exposed himself until detained. Stevenson rode his bicycle into the store, threatened employees, and attempted theft. He made crude remarks and exposed himself to the manager, then assaulted her before being detained. Stevenson faces multiple charges including assault, indecent exposure, and theft. He was given a $15,000 bond and is in custody at Rowan County Detention Center.

In Kernersville, North Carolina, police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Buckview Court shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. They discovered Linda Turner Terrell, 74, inside the home with head trauma and pronounced her dead at the scene. Her daughter, Michelle Denise DeGuzman, 51, was arrested for her mother's murder and is currently held without bond at the Forsyth County Detention Center. Authorities assure the public that this incident is isolated and poses no further threat.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on Saturday morning after fleeing from a traffic stop on a motorcycle in Rowan County, North Carolina. According to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, the incident began around 1 a.m. when a deputy noticed a motorcycle with neon wheels driving over 100 mph on Interstate 85. The driver, identified as Chandler Austin King, sped up to 130 mph and weaved in and out of traffic before exiting the highway and experiencing engine troubles on Julian Road. King was forced to stop at an intersection and was arrested without incident. He was charged with felony flee to elude, misdemeanor aggressive driving, and speeding. He was given a $20,000 bond and is being held at the Rowan County Detention Center.
A 23-year-old man, Jermaine Tye Wade, has been charged with multiple offenses after being found to possess marijuana while being booked into the Rowan County Detention Center. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when deputies responded to a report of a 15-year-old runaway who had been found hanging out with Wade in the 100 block of Furniture Drive.
A 23-year-old man was arrested after a high-speed chase that ended in a crash into a tree, where the vehicle caught fire. The incident occurred on Thursday morning when a deputy stopped the vehicle on Interstate 85 for speeding. The driver, Malik Tai Douglas, initially stopped before speeding off and leading deputies on a chase through the streets of Salisbury.

Kannapolis: An 18-year-old is in custody following a tragic shooting incident in Kannapolis on June 10. The Kannapolis Police Department responded to a disturbance at a residence on 1903 Lane St. around 8:45 p.m., where they found Ebony Gill, 43, deceased from a gunshot wound. Jawaren Smith, 18, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident. Smith was apprehended with the help of local residents who witnessed him fleeing the scene. On Thursday authorities reported they were searching for a couple out of Davie County that had been missing. According to the Davie County Sheriff's Department, Cynthia Roberson Gobble and Gregory Wayne Gobble have been found deceased on the Iredell/Davie County line. Authorities say they do not believe anyone else is involved and are currently investigating the incident.
Rowan County Sheriff’s Department involved in shootout today on Old Concord Rd. The suspect, Kenneth Vickers, was pronounced dead on the scene. Vickers shot at deputies as they tried to apprehend him after he failed to return to court after a short break. Vickers was out on bond for charges in Cabarrus County.

On May 10, 2024, Rowan County deputies responded to an arson and stabbing incident at 1220 Chez Charolais Road. James Joseph Gunnerson allegedly stabbed his girlfriend during a domestic argument, doused her and the mobile home with motor fuel, and set it on fire. The victim escaped to a neighbor's house and was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in critical condition. Gunnerson was arrested after being treated for burns and charged with first-degree arson and attempted first-degree murder. He is held without bond at the Forsyth County Detention Center.
A man was charged with multiple counts of felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle after reportedly returning to an auto repair store in Kannapolis several times to steal from vehicles. Billy Ray McIntyre, 63, was arrested on Tuesday and faced charges of two counts of felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and two counts of misdemeanor first-degree trespassing. The incidents occurred at Kings Autobody on 2101 N. Main St. in March and April. McIntyre was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center with a $70,000 bond.
According to an update from the City of Albemarle, the Albemarle Police Department has apprehended a suspect in connection with a shots fired incident that occurred in the 800 block of NC 24/27. The incident unfolded around 9:55 a.m. when an Albemarle Police Officer reported hearing gunfire. Upon reaching the scene, officers found a male who claimed to have been targeted from a vehicle. Following an investigation, officers identified a suspect vehicle and its potential whereabouts. With the help of the Norwood Police, detectives from the Albemarle Police Department managed to intercept the suspect vehicle in Norwood, NC.

A Woodleaf man was recently arrested and charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child following a report of alleged sexual abuse filed by the victim's family. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office received the report on March 29, detailing the incident that occurred at the man's residence.
A woman faces serious charges after police found her in possession of drugs during her booking at the Salisbury Detention Center. Ashley Lynn Bynum, 36, was initially taken into custody during a routine traffic stop around 7:25 p.m. Thursday. According to Rowan County Sheriff's Office spokesman Captain Mark McDaniel, a deputy found drugs in his possession during the stop. When Bynum was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center, detention officers noticed he was carrying a small black bag. As they tried to handcuff him, another bag containing crack cocaine fell out of his pants. Deputies immediately secured Bynum and conducted a search, finding marijuana in a black bag and crack cocaine in a clear bag.
