Man Plea's Guilty to Second Degree Murder of Child

In Salisbury, 30-year-old David Alan Brady pleaded guilty on August 23 to second-degree murder and felony child abuse related to the death of his girlfriend's son, Waylon Blake Thompson, and the severe injuries of his own son, Matthew. Brady's legal troubles began in 2020 when Waylon, then a child, died from blunt force trauma, with Brady living at the same residence. Initially charged with felony child abuse, he was granted a $500,000 bond.

After the birth of his son, Matthew, investigators discovered that the infant suffered multiple severe injuries, which linked Brady to both cases. By March 2024, he was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder.

Brady ultimately entered an Alford plea, acknowledging the prosecution's evidence while maintaining his innocence. In court, Superior Court Judge Clifton H. Smith sentenced him to 15 to 19 years in prison after finding that Brady abused the boys while in a position of trust. Prosecutors highlighted the tragic circumstances surrounding the children's lives and commend the efforts of the Salisbury Police Department and District Attorney's office in bringing Brady to justice.
