Warrant Service Reveals Drugs and Weapon of Mass Destruction

SALISBURY, N.C. (Saturday, March 15, 2025) - On March 12, 2025, deputies with the Civil Division of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4855 Pleasant Place Rd Salisbury to attempt to serve a warrant on Terry Brett Bunn. When deputies arrived, Bunn was standing near the road at the end of his driveway.

Bunn was advised by the deputies that they had a warrant for his arrest. Bunn subsequently called for Elizabeth Ann Merwin to come out of the house so that he could give her his belongings. When Bunn handed her his belongings from his pocket, he dropped a small plastic bag that contained white powder. Once the bag of powder was discovered, Bunn and Merwin, along with other people who were present, were detained.

When deputies asked Bunn what was in the bag, he said it looked like Fentanyl. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was contacted, and they assisted the Civil division by obtaining and assisting with the service of a search warrant at the residence at 4855 Pleasant Place Road. The search warrant revealed the following.

-56 Grams of Methamphetamine
-7 Grams of Fentanyl
-1 Stolen Firearm (Shotgun)

The barrel of the shotgun had been sawed off, thereby, making it into a Weapon of Mass Destruction in violation of NC General Statute 14-288.8. Bunn and Merwin were arrested and charged with the following Charges.

Terry Brett Bunn- Possession of Stolen Firearm, Possession of Weapon of Mass Destruction, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule 1 Controlled Substance, and Misdemeanor Child Abuse. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center on a secured bond of $ 460,000.00.
