Fatal Accident Connected to Salisbury Police Chase, Driver Charged

A fatal crash in late October has been linked to a high-speed police chase involving a 17-year-old driver. According to the State Highway Patrol, the accident resulted in the death of one passenger and injuries to two juveniles.

The crash occurred on the morning of October 31 on NC Highway 150, just north of Mt. Carmel Road. Authorities stated that the incident was connected to an attempted traffic stop the night before. Salisbury Police had attempted to stop a red Mazda CX-9 on Jake Alexander Boulevard, leading to a pursuit. The chase continued onto I-85 North but was called off as it neared Davidson County. Just hours later, the same vehicle was involved in a deadly crash in that area.

The passenger, identified as 33-year-old Kayla Lynn Taylor from Concord, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two juveniles, who were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, were taken to Rowan Regional Hospital for treatment. The driver, 17-year-old Kaiell Zachkery Thompkins from Salisbury, has been charged and is currently in a juvenile detention facility in Concord.
