Belgian Malinois Shot After Biting Deputy Fully Recovers

A Belgian Malinois that was shot after biting a Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy on July 20 has made a full recovery, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies had responded to a call from a woman who reported that her boyfriend had pulled her hair and threatened to kill her.

Upon arrival at the East Hwy. 152 residence, a deputy was speaking with the male resident when he was warned about an approaching dog that "will bite." The dog then bit the deputy on the thigh, prompting the officer to fire his service weapon twice. The dog released its grip, and the homeowner took the animal inside.

A China Grove police officer arrived to continue the interview while the deputy assessed his injuries. It was discovered that the dog had bitten into the deputy’s equipment rather than his thigh, leaving the officer uninjured.

The woman who made the initial call returned home and stated that she had no visible injuries and did not wish to press charges. The dog was taken to the vet and has since made a full recovery.
