Juvenile Charge in East Rowan High School Bomb Threat

Statement from the Rowan County Sheriff's Department.

A juvenile has been charged in connection with a bomb threat at East Rowan High School in Rowan County.

On August 30, 2024 at approximately 12:27 pm, Deputies with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the East Rowan High School in reference to a bomb threat that had been sent in an email to school staff.

Students and staff were immediately evacuated while Deputies searched the school but were unable to locate anything suspicious. The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office responded with two explosives detection K-9’s who searched the building but did not alert to any explosives or locate anything suspicious. Once the building was cleared, students and staff were brought back into the building.

Late in the afternoon, deputies received a tip alerting them to the identity of a juvenile suspect in this incident. During that investigation, it was determined that the juvenile had sent in the bomb threat, and that juvenile was charged on a juvenile referral.
We would like to thank the Rockwell and Granite Quarry/Faith Police Departments along with the Rowan County Rescue Squad, Fire and EMS units who responded to assist in this incident. We would also like to express our appreciation to the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units who assisted us in clearing the building.
