Kannapolis: An 18-year-old is in custody following a tragic shooting incident in Kannapolis on June 10. The Kannapolis Police Department responded to a disturbance at a residence on 1903 Lane St. around 8:45 p.m., where they found Ebony Gill, 43, deceased from a gunshot wound. Jawaren Smith, 18, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident. Smith was apprehended with the help of local residents who witnessed him fleeing the scene.
